About Laura
I came to mindfulness when I needed mental strength and the ability to draw on inner resources to deal with a very complicated and emotionally challenging time of my life. I had already trained as a yoga teacher in India with The Himalayan Yoga Institute. By practicing yoga and meditation, and studying yoga philosophy, I had become convinced that answers would reveal themselves if I continued to look within. I just needed to be brave enough to accept my challenges and look them squarely in the face. By quietening the mind I was more likely to see clearly what I had to do.
I then embarked upon a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Course and experienced the positive effects of regular practice. By facing my fears and acknowledging the pain I felt inside instead of blocking it out, I would strengthen my resilience and become more in control of my life.
A wonderful, positive energy carried me through very complex and stressful times. I was able to listen to my intuition and have faith in my decisions, even when they didn’t make sense on paper. I am convinced that by slowing down the pace of my life and living moment by moment, with acceptance, it enabled miracles to happen. Things fell into place.
Having now qualified as a mindfulness teacher with Mindfulness UK, I feel eager to pass on what I have learned to anyone suffering from any kind of pain, anxiety or stress. Mindfulness practices exercise the mental muscle and actually change the neural pathways of the brain! It does take regular practice to break lifelong habits and our tendency to operate on autopilot at times, and these are the practices I want to share with you. Jon Kabat Zinn, founder of the now famous MBSR course, said: “Practice as though your life depends on it - and it probably does!”
